Trauma, Veterans and First Responders Program

Our Trauma, Veterans and First Responders Program gives military members, firefighters, police, EMTs, and other frontline professionals a grounded place to exhale, reset, and quietly begin to heal. Drawing on three decades of experiential education and trauma‑informed practice, we use our 4 A's framework - Animals, Adventure, Agriculture, and Arts & Healing Arts - alongside the Columbia Protocol for safety, to move participants gently out of fight/flight and into a steadier, more hopeful state.

The program begins with a 5‑hour introduction that lets your group sample each of the 4 A's at a pace that feels safe: time with our goats and chickens to lower anxiety and restore trust, guided forest adventures that rebuild teamwork and confidence, hands‑in‑the‑soil gardening to release stress, and simple creative/healing arts to process what words often cannot reach. From there, many groups choose our 20‑hour core, delivered as four weekly 5‑hour days or a focused weekend retreat. Those 20 experiential hours are intentionally sequenced using Maslow's developmental framework - first safety and trust, then connection and camaraderie, then esteem and confidence, and finally a renewed sense of purpose and authenticity.

For teams who benefit from a slower rhythm, we can extend the work into a weekly series, similar to our 2‑hour 10‑week and 2‑to‑6‑hour introductory 4 A's programs that we run with schools, seniors, and families. That format gives veterans and first responders a dependable "anchor day" each week to decompress, reconnect with peers, and practice the skills that protect mental health over the long haul.

Participants leave not only with calmer nervous systems, but with practical peer‑based tools for managing stress, supporting each other, and staying grounded after difficult calls or deployments.
